In the ethereal haze of Woodstock's legendary stage, a seismic performance by Jimi Hendrix ignited a transformative spark within a young, impressionable soul – Brett Zimmerman. It wasn't just a fleeting moment; it was the culmination of countless hours immersed in Hendrix's electrifying performances and even an earnest book report on the iconic musician during 8th grade. It was then and there Brett decided he wanted to pick up his axe and play like Jimi. This experience wasn't merely inspiring; it was the catalyst that set Brett on an extraordinary path through the realm of music.
Originally from the picturesque Piedmont region of North Carolina, Brett Zimmerman is no ordinary musician; he's a multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, producer, recording engineer, and an impassioned music educator. With nearly 15 years of teaching music and a musical journey spanning 26 years, Brett's legacy is one of boundless creativity, dedication, and profound expertise.
But Brett's narrative extends far beyond the classroom. He's a dynamic performer, a stage virtuoso who has conjured captivating melodies across a spectrum of musical genres. From the soul-stirring blues to the electrifying realms of rock, from the rhythmic cadences of hip-hop to the tranquil harmonies of reggae, from the groove-infused rhythms to the mesmerizing vibes of dub-reggae, Brett's musical odyssey has unfolded over two glorious decades, with each note and rhythm adding layers of richness to his ever-evolving tapestry of experiences.
Fate guided Brett through an academic journey that further refined his musical prowess. He pursued and earned his B.A. in Music Industries Studies at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. During this academic voyage, he delved deep into classical and jazz guitar studies, with a sharp focus on Audio Production & Recording at the Hayes School of Music. This period ignited his passion for producing original compositions, paving the way for his future endeavors.
In 2010, destiny unveiled Brett's love for music education during an internship at the renowned Tree Sound Studios, a hub of musical creativity based in Atlanta. Post-graduation, Brett embarked on a personal musical quest, establishing his recording studio, Last Boss Productions. Here, music flowed like a river, crafting beautiful symphonies for film, vocalists, and instrumentalists alike. His mentorship extended to teenagers, guiding them year-round as part of a group ensemble known as The Rock Academy, based in Asheville. Concurrently, he imparted individual lessons at The Asheville Music Academy, a three-year commitment that not only refined their instrumental skills but also instilled confidence, stage etiquette, and a readiness for high-profile performances at music festivals dotting the Asheville landscape.
Amid life's serendipitous twists, a mesmerizing vacation brought Brett face-to-face with the beauty of Hawaii, the land of Aloha. It was a moment that would forever alter the course of his life. Hawaii's allure, its enchanting spirit, and its siren call beckoned Brett to make it his home. In 2016, he became a resident of the Big Island, and since then, he has become an integral part of Kailua-Kona's vibrant music community.
Since 2017, Brett has been sharing his musical expertise with the students of Innovations Public Charter School, further enriching the musical landscape of the Big Island. In more recent years, he has honed his craft through the study of advanced jazz, graced private events with his entrancing melodies, and served as a dedicated music educator at the Royal Kona Resort since 2022. Brett is also extremely grateful to be living in Hawaii, doing what he loves with music, and following his passion.
Moreover, Brett has sought inspiration from some of the best virtuosos in the industry. His musical journey took him to study under Abe Lagrimas Jr., a ukulele virtuoso, exploring the intricate world of the ukulele. Additionally, he delved into advanced techniques and tapping under the guidance of John Ferrera on Bass. These experiences have further enriched his musical palette, allowing him to infuse his performances and teachings with newfound depth and expertise.
As his journey unfolds, the notes of Brett's life continue to compose a symphony of passion, dedication, and boundless creativity, enriching the lives of all those who have the privilege of sharing in his musical odyssey.
